Theme Song
The show's theme song, "Brand New Life", was written by series creators and executive producers Cohan and Hunter, with music composed by Larry Carlton and Robert Kraft. There were three versions used throughout the series' run. They were performed by Larry Weiss, Jonathan Wolff and Steve Wariner during the show's run. The second version, which was used from 1986–1990, was performed by country music singer Steve Wariner. A third version was used for the last eight episodes of season six and a very minor revision of that particular version of the theme was used the entire seventh and eighth seasons.

Famous quotes containing the words theme and/or song:
“One theme links together these new proposals for family policythe idea that the family is exceedingly durable. Changes in structure and function and individual roles are not to be confused with the collapse of the family. Families remain more important in the lives of children than other institutions. Family ties are stronger and more vital than many of us imagine in the perennial atmosphere of crisis surrounding the subject.”
—Joseph Featherstone (20th century)
“This is a catastrophic universe, always; and subject to sudden reversals, upheavals, changes, cataclysms, with joy never anything but the song of substance under pressure forced into new forms and shapes.”
—Doris Lessing (b. 1919)
