Wheel Group

Wheel Group

WheelGroup was a pioneering computer security company with approximately 65 employees based in San Antonio, Texas, in the United States. The 10 founders originally met and worked together at the US Air Force Information Warfare Center and they started Wheelgroup in November 1995. WheelGroup was one of the first companies to specialize in network security and penetration testing. The company developed and sold the first commercial intrusion detection system: NetRanger, which was the Flagship intrusion detection software at Cisco Systems and which has now been re-engineered, and re-branded, as the Cisco Systems Adaptive Security Appliance. WheelGroup also created the first Python based network vulnerability scanner: NetSonar, which was later re-branded and sold as the Cisco Network Security Scanner. WheelGroup was acquired by Cisco Systems for $124 million dollars on March 12, 1998. Since the acquisition of WheelGroup, the original founders have all moved on to prominent positions at other computer security companies, started their own computer security companies, or have moved into Research & Development positions at Cisco Systems.

All ten remain active in designing and developing cutting edge security systems.

Famous quotes containing the words wheel and/or group:

Men seem more bound to the wheel of success than women do. That women are trained to get satisfaction from affiliation rather than achievement has tended to keep them from great achievement. But it has also freed them from unreasonable expectations about the satisfactions that professional achievement brings.
    Phyllis Rose (b. 1942)

If the Russians have gone too far in subjecting the child and his peer group to conformity to a single set of values imposed by the adult society, perhaps we have reached the point of diminishing returns in allowing excessive autonomy and in failing to utilize the constructive potential of the peer group in developing social responsibility and consideration for others.
    Urie Bronfenbrenner (b. 1917)
