Retail Centres

Whangarei serves as the primary destination for shopping within the region and has at least one of most nation-wide retail chains.

The town centre has the largest concentration of stores with the Cameron Street Mall and the Strand Arcade offering smaller stores as well as the nearby Tarewa Centre and Okara Shopping Centre providing big-box format stores.

Suburban shopping centres can be found in Kamo, Tikipunga, Kensington, Regent, Onerahi, and Raumanga.

Supermarkets include three Countdown stores located in Okara, Kensington and Tikipunga, two New World stores located in Onerahi and the Regent, a Pak'n'Save located in the city centre as well as Four Square food markets in Kamo and Raumanga.

Famous quotes containing the words retail and/or centres:

A free-enterprise economy depends only on markets, and according to the most advanced mathematical macroeconomic theory, markets depend only on moods: specifically, the mood of the men in the pinstripes, also known as the Boys on the Street. When the Boys are in a good mood, the market thrives; when they get scared or sullen, it is time for each one of us to look into the retail apple business.
    Barbara Ehrenreich (b. 1941)

We all have—to put it as nicely as I can—our lower centres and our higher centres. Our lower centres act: they act with terrible power that sometimes destroys us; but they don’t talk.... Since the war the lower centres have become vocal. And the effect is that of an earthquake. For they speak truths that have never been spoken before—truths that the makers of our domestic institutions have tried to ignore.
    George Bernard Shaw (1856–1950)
