Controversy

The club is unique in that it offers courts of all the Grand Slam surfaces: Rebound Ace (Australian Open), red clay (French Open), grass (Wimbledon), and DecoTurf (US Open). The clay courts are the only courts in the United States that are identical to those at Roland Garros. The grass courts were designed and installed under the supervision of David Kimpton of the Queen's Club. There are 46 courts in total, including 10 indoors. Gallery Furniture Stadium has a capacity of 5,240 spectators.

In December 2006, the club management decided to change the fundamentals and become an all-around sports and family club instead of a strictly tennis club.

Although it had the finest facilities in the Houston area, it has converted its grass courts into a first-class soccer field and the red clay into swimming pools and more hard courts. The 5 blue indoor courts were turned into the "zone" where families can have fun and added 2 teaching courts and a teaching lane with a ball machine.

Famous quotes containing the word controversy:

And therefore, as when there is a controversy in an account, the parties must by their own accord, set up for right Reason, the Reason of some Arbitrator, or Judge, to whose sentence, they will both stand, or their controversy must either come to blows, or be undecided, for want of a right Reason constituted by Nature; so is it also in all debates of what kind soever.
    Thomas Hobbes (1579–1688)

Ours was a highly activist administration, with a lot of controversy involved ... but I’m not sure that it would be inconsistent with my own political nature to do it differently if I had it to do all over again.
Jimmy Carter (James Earl Carter, Jr.)
