Western Australia Border

The Western Australian border was originally designated as 129th meridian east longitude (129° east); however, the borders marked on the ground are in fact some distance from this line. Kununurra is the closest town to the Western Australian border, being about 25 km west of the border.

Famous quotes containing the words western, australia and/or border:

When Western people train the mind, the focus is generally on the left hemisphere of the cortex, which is the portion of the brain that is concerned with words and numbers. We enhance the logical, bounded, linear functions of the mind. In the East, exercises of this sort are for the purpose of getting in tune with the unconscious—to get rid of boundaries, not to create them.
    Edward T. Hall (b. 1914)

I like Australia less and less. The hateful newness, the democratic conceit, every man a little pope of perfection.
    —D.H. (David Herbert)

Swift while the woof is whole,
    turn now my spirit, swift,
    and tear the pattern there,
    the flowers so deftly wrought,
    the border of sea-blue,
    the sea-blue coast of home.
    Hilda Doolittle (1886–1961)
