West Forsyth is a member of the 4A Central Piedmont Conference (CPC). The CPC is a top-notch conference, featuring many of West's rivals including R.J. Reynolds, Mt. Tabor, and its main rivals Davie County and Reagan High School.

West Forsyth was also home to the international basketball star Chris Paul. Paul played basketball at Wake Forest University from 2003 to 2005 until entering the NBA. He now plays for the Los Angeles Clippers. Paul was voted the 2005–06 NBA Rookie of the Year and was the starting point guard for the 2008 USA Basketball "Redeem" Team where he helped them win a gold medal.
