WESH - Digital Television

Digital Television

WESH had carried NBC Weather Plus as a digital subchannel 2.2; national WX+ operations have since been terminated by the originating network, effective December 1, 2008.

Channel Video Aspect Programming
2.1 1080i 16:9 Main WESH programming / NBC
2.2 480i 4:3 Me-TV

In addition to Weather Plus programming, WESH's 2.2 subchannel was previously used to carry NBC Daytime and syndicated programming from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., to accommodate Casey Anthony trial coverage on WESH's primary channel. The arrangement did not include NBC Sports' weekday coverage of the U.S. Open and Wimbledon, which were instead seen on WKCF. On July 11, 2011, WESH replaced the weather programming on subchannel 2.2 with Me-TV.

As part of the analog television shutdown and digital conversion, WESH shut down its analog transmitter on June 12, 2009, and continued to broadcast on its pre-transition digital channel 11. However, through the use of PSIP, digital television receivers display WESH's virtual channel as 2. WESH is the only VHF station in Orlando after the DTV transition, since WFTV and WKMG-TV opted for the UHF dial instead.

Famous quotes containing the word television:

The television screen, so unlike the movie screen, sharply reduced human beings, revealed them as small, trivial, flat, in two banal dimensions, drained of color. Wasn’t there something reassuring about it!—that human beings were in fact merely images of a kind registered in one another’s eyes and brains, phenomena composed of microscopic flickering dots like atoms. They were atoms—nothing more. A quick switch of the dial and they disappeared and who could lament the loss?
    Joyce Carol Oates (b. 1938)
