Weakly Guiding Fiber

In fiber optics, a weakly guiding fiber is one where the difference between the refractive indexes of the core and the cladding is very small (typically less than 1%).

Famous quotes containing the words weakly, guiding and/or fiber:

If a weakly mortal is to do anything in the world besides eat the bread thereof, there must be a determined subordination of the whole nature to the one aim—no trifling with time, which is passing, with strength which is only too limited.
    Beatrice Potter Webb (1858–1943)

We are born to action; and whatever is capable of suggesting and guiding action has power over us from the first.
    Charles Horton Cooley (1864–1929)

I am an invisible man.... I am a man of substance, of flesh and bone, fiber and liquids—and I might even be said to possess a mind. I am invisible, understand, simply because people refuse to see me.
    Ralph Ellison (b. 1914)
