Waterfalls (TLC Song) - Music Video

Music Video

The music video was filmed at Universal Studios Hollywood from June 8–9, 1995 and it was directed by F. Gary Gray and features Ella Joyce, Bokeem Woodbine, Shyheim, Paul J. Alessi and Gabrielle Bramford. The song and video tackle the issues of drug dealing and HIV, two problems plaguing the inner cities. A young man is going against his mother's advice to stop selling drugs, and is killed before a drug deal. In between the scenes, they show a couple and the woman convinces him to not use protection. He looks in the mirror and a small picture frame on the dresser displays all the people she has been with previously. The video also shows intercut scenes of the group performing the song while standing on top of an ocean and liquid bodies of them performing the song while in front of a real waterfall. At the end of the video, the young man appears. He tries to reach out to his mother as she is walking up the stairs to her house, but he disappears. The couple both fade away, as they both die from HIV.

Famous quotes containing the words music and/or video:

    From where Pan’s cavern is
    Intolerable music falls.
    Foul goat-head, brutal arm appear,
    Belly, shoulder, bum,
    Flash fishlike; nymphs and satyrs
    Copulate in the foam.
    William Butler Yeats (1865–1939)

We attempt to remember our collective American childhood, the way it was, but what we often remember is a combination of real past, pieces reshaped by bitterness and love, and, of course, the video past—the portrayals of family life on such television programs as “Leave it to Beaver” and “Father Knows Best” and all the rest.
    Richard Louv (20th century)
