WIP Alumni
Many WIP graduates have moved into important careers in politics, business, media and education. Among the notable alumni are Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport Leo Varadkar TD, Cllr Sharon Haughey, Lord Mayor of Armagh and Chris Lyttle MLA.
Upon graduation, WIP students join the WIP Alumni Community – an active and vibrant network of young professionals based in Ireland, Northern Ireland and across the globe. Professional development courses, networking opportunities, leadership dinners, fundraising and social events and a mentoring scheme are some of the activities WIP Alumni engage in. Our 450 alumni now represent a rising generation of leaders committed to service, peace and prosperity in Ireland and Northern Ireland.
In 2001, alumni members of the Washington-Ireland Programme established a charity known as the Youth Empowerment Scheme, a mentoring programme for children aged 11–14 years old from across Belfast. The aim of YES is to promote social inclusion of children from different ethnic, religious, educational and socio-economic backgrounds.
