Historical Basis

A peer-reviewed study in 2003 determined it was more likely Roosevelt's paralytic illness was actually caused by Guillain-Barré syndrome, not polio. Famous quotes containing the words historical and/or basis:

Some minds are as little logical or argumentative as nature; they can offer no reason or “guess,” but they exhibit the solemn and incontrovertible fact. If a historical question arises, they cause the tombs to be opened. Their silent and practical logic convinces the reason and the understanding at the same time. Of such sort is always the only pertinent question and the only satisfactory reply.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

Brutus. How many times shall Caesar bleed in sport,
That now on Pompey’s basis lies along,
    No worthier than the dust!
Cassius. So oft as that shall be,
So often shall the knot of us be called
The men that gave their country liberty.
    William Shakespeare (1564–1616)
