Warington Baden-Powell - Sea Scouts

Sea Scouts

Robert Baden-Powell asked his brother Warington to head up the first specialized branch of the Boy Scouts Association. Warington Baden-Powell agreed, and Sea Scouting was officially organized in England in 1912. Warington then wrote the first official Sea Scout manual, Sea Scouting and Seamanship for Boys. The manual sold well and Sea Scouting flourished.

Famous quotes containing the words sea and/or scouts:

    Our sympathies in Massachusetts are not confined to New England; though we may be estranged from the South, we sympathize with the West. There is the home of the younger sons, as among the Scandinavians they took to the sea for their inheritance.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

    it pleaseth me when I see through the meadows
    The tents and pavilions set up, and great joy have I
    When I see o’er the campana knights armed and horses arrayed.

    And it pleaseth me when the scouts set in flight the folk with
    their goods;
    And it pleaseth me when I see coming together after them an host of
    armed men.
    Bertrans De Born (fl. 12th century)
