Ward Anderson is the largest cinema chain in Ireland. It operates cinemas throughout Ireland and Northern Ireland. Ward Anderson is not a single company but is a group of companies such as Provincial Cinemas Ltd., the Dublin Cinema Group, the Green Group, and so on, owned by its founders, half brothers Leo Ward (born 1919) and Kevin Anderson (born 1915), and its brands are managed by members of their families.
The group runs two main chains - Omniplex and IMC - which operate in many provincial towns in Ireland. The typical cinema owned by the group has between five and ten screens. The group's companies own 23 cinemas in Ireland and 12 cinemas in Northern Ireland.
EMPIRE cinemas is run by Thomas Anderson in the United Kingdom, but has no business connection to the Irish cinema operations Empire Cinemas.
The group's flagship is the Savoy Cinema in O'Connell Street, Dublin. It also owns the Screen Cinema in D'Olier Street, which tends to show more alternative films. However, unlike outside Dublin where the group is dominant, the market in the capital is keenly contested, with competitors including Odeon, Cineworld and Vue.
