Family

Walter married Rose Coates in 1929 in Sydney. She was dying at this time and died soon after. His second marriage was to Alicia Hoskin on 9 April 1933 in London. Know as Sue, Walter and his wife toured the world for many years. A family story recounts Alicia as peeing off the top of the Eiffel Tower. Trophies and presents from this period were in part past to his only godchild Jonathan Ingram. Alicia and Walter were divorced in 1955. Walter married a third time in July 1956, to Beryl Elaine, née Carr, who survived him.

Famous quotes containing the word family:

Nothing strengthens the judgment and quickens the conscience like individual responsibility. Nothing adds such dignity to character as the recognition of one’s self-sovereignty; the right to an equal place, everywhere conceded—a place earned by personal merit, not an artificial attainment by inheritance, wealth, family and position.
    Elizabeth Cady Stanton (1815–1902)

The strongest bond of human sympathy, outside of the family relation, should be one uniting all working people, of all nations, and tongues, and kindreds.
    Abraham Lincoln (1809–1865)

My Friend is not of some other race or family of men, but flesh of my flesh, bone of my bone. He is my real brother.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)
