Famous quotes containing the words walt, world and/or railroad:
“I always knew in my heart Walt Whitmans mind to be more like my own than any other mans living. As he is a very great scoundrel this is not a pleasant confession.”
—Gerard Manley Hopkins (18441889)
“Of all the nations in the world, the United States was built in nobodys image. It was the land of the unexpected, of unbounded hope, of ideals, of quest for an unknown perfection. It is all the more unfitting that we should offer ourselves in images. And all the more fitting that the images which we make wittingly or unwittingly to sell America to the world should come back to haunt and curse us.”
—Daniel J. Boorstin (b. 1914)
“This I saw when waking late,
Going by at a railroad rate,
Looking through wreaths of engine smoke
Far into the lives of other folk.”
—Robert Frost (18741963)
