Club History

The club was founded in 1959 at Ranui as Western United, and many of the club's early players cam from the Royal New Zealand Air Force base at Whenuapai. The club has changed its name twice, first to Waitemata City, and then to its current name. They're currently top of the table in division 1 and through to the last 16 of the Chatham Cup. In 2011 Waitemata were crowned champions of the 2011 US1 Premiership season for the first time in their history, after fifteen rounds.

Famous quotes containing the words club and/or history:

Of course we women gossip on occasion. But our appetite for it is not as avid as a man’s. It is in the boys’ gyms, the college fraternity houses, the club locker rooms, the paneled offices of business that gossip reaches its luxuriant flower.
    Phyllis McGinley (1905–1978)

We may pretend that we’re basically moral people who make mistakes, but the whole of history proves otherwise.
    Terry Hands (b. 1941)
