Voyages Extraordinaires - List of Novels

List of Novels

Most of the novels in the Voyages series (except for Five Weeks in a Balloon, Journey to the Center of the Earth, and The Purchase of the North Pole) were first serialized in periodicals, usually in Hetzel’s Magasin d'Éducation et de récréation ("Magazine of Education and Recreation"). Almost all of the original book editions were published by Pierre-Jules Hetzel in octodecimo format, often in several volumes. (The one exception is Claudius Bombarnac, which was first published in a grand-in-8º edition.) This is the French publication date listed. Illustrated octavo-format books (octavo) were published later on.

Only the fifty-four novels published in Verne's lifetime are listed; the posthumous additions to the series are listed in Verne's bibliography. The most common English-language titles for the novels are also provided. The dates given are those of the first publication in book form.

Famous quotes containing the words list of, list and/or novels:

Every morning I woke in dread, waiting for the day nurse to go on her rounds and announce from the list of names in her hand whether or not I was for shock treatment, the new and fashionable means of quieting people and of making them realize that orders are to be obeyed and floors are to be polished without anyone protesting and faces are to be made to be fixed into smiles and weeping is a crime.
    Janet Frame (b. 1924)

Hey, you dress up our town very nicely. You don’t look out the Chamber of Commerce is going to list you in their publicity with the local attractions.
Robert M. Fresco, and Jack Arnold. Dr. Matt Hastings (John Agar)

But then in novels the most indifferent hero comes out right at last. Some god comes out of a theatrical cloud and leaves the poor devil ten thousand-a-year and a title.
    Anthony Trollope (1815–1882)
