Safety
EuroNCAP tested the first generation Volvo S80, running from 1998 to 2003. They tested a left hand drive, 4-door Saloon, registered in 2000, with front seatbelt pretensioners, seatbelt load limiters, as well as front, side, body, and head airbags:
Test | Score | Points |
Overall: | N/A | N/A |
Adult occupant: | 29 | |
Pedestrian: | 14 |
Scores given for the car showed pedestrians' legs facing a very aggressive front end, resulting in only 2 stars of 4 for pedestrian safety. Despite this EuroNCAP did state "This large Volvo is very safe and gave a good all round performance" due to the good adult protection inside the car in the event of a collision.

Famous quotes containing the word safety:
“Perhaps having built a barricade when youre sixteen provides you with a sort of safety rail. If youve once taken part in building one, even inadvertently, doesnt its usually latent image reappear like a warning signal whenever youre tempted to join the police, or support any manifestation of Law and Order?”
—Jean Genet (19101986)
“For hours, in fall days, I watched the ducks cunningly tack and veer and hold the middle of the pond, far from the sportsman;... but what beside safety they got by sailing in the middle of Walden I do not know, unless they love its water for the same reason that I do.”
—Henry David Thoreau (18171862)
“A lover is never a completely self-reliant person viewing the world through his own eyes, but a hostage to a certain delusion. He becomes a perjurer, all his thoughts and emotions being directed with reference, not to an accurate and just appraisal of the real world but rather to the safety and exaltation of his loved one, and the madness with which he pursues her, transmogrifying his attention, blinds him like a victim.”
—Alexander Theroux (b. 1940)
