The first generation Touareg has had reports regarding premature failure of the center support bearing. This failure has occurred after 100,000 km, beyond the vehicle warranty coverage. VW dealers recommend the fitting of a non-genuine bearing part or the replacement of the entire drive tail shaft assembly.
Certain Australian Touareg vehicles have been recalled due to faulty rear belt locks that may have been fitted because of a riveting defect.
