Life After Defection

Petrov became an Australian citizen in 1956. His and Evdokia's names were changed to Sven and Maria Anna Allyson. They lived a quiet suburban life in Melbourne. He died in 1991, and she died in 2002.

The whereabouts of the Petrovs were still the subject of a D-Notice in 1982.

Famous quotes containing the words life and/or defection:

A moment that gave not only itself, but
Also the means of keeping it, of not turning to dust
    Or gestures somewhere up ahead
But of becoming complicated like the torrent
In new dark passages, tears and laughter which
Are a sign of life, of distant life in this case.
    John Ashbery (b. 1927)

The most dangerous follower is the one whose defection would destroy the whole party: hence, the best follower.
    Friedrich Nietzsche (1844–1900)
