Vishnuvardhan was married to Kannada actress Bharathi. He had 2 adopted daughters, Keerthi and Chandana. He was very respectful to women in his life, had no controversies with other peer women actors in his lifetime. He even addressed his wife as Mayi (mother). Being an icon and having tasted success, probably he is the only actor in entire movie industry to have such a respect for women and being clean. He is great friend of Another top actor/politician Ambareesh. Though Ambareesh and Vishnu were of same generation and came to industry at the same time, there was no competition among these two great actors. This is now a rare thing to happen in any movie industry.
