History
The Vinod Gupta School of Management(VGSOM), IIT Kharagpur, was set up in 1993 with a $2-million endowment from a distinguished alumnus of IIT Kharagpur, Mr.Vinod Gupta, matched by liberal support from the Government of India, to provide future business leaders with the ability to understand and leverage the advantages of technology for managing successful businesses in the knowledge driven era. The foundation stone of the School was laid by the then President of India, late Dr. Shankar Dayal Sharma in July 1994, and the School moved to its fine new building in December 1996. VGSOM at IIT, Kharagpur was the first of its kind in the country.
IIT Kharagpur was the first of the IITs and remains the largest and most diversified. Currently, the Institute has been ranked the best engineering college in the country (2001, 2002 and 2003) and one of the best B-schools of the country. It has a vast reservoir of knowledge and expertise in the highest realm of learning in science, engineering and technology. All this is available to VGSOM students in the form of elective and audit courses.
