Vikram University

Vikram University (Hindi: विक्रम विश्वविद्यालय) is a university in the city of Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh, India.

Ujjain is known for its antiquity and its rich cultural and religious traditions. The Lions and the Rising Sun (which, together formed the Crest of the great Vikramaditya) represent indomitable courage and the rising light of wisdom. The Book Poised lightly on the petals of the lotus signifies the numerous branches of learning. The Silhouette of the temple of Mahakaleshwara symbolizes the sacred culture of the ancient city of Ujjain, the seat of the University.

The university, which is named after the ruler Vikramaditya, was established in 1957. The foundation stone was laid by the then Home Minister of India Govind Vallabh Pant.
