The Vicksburg Fire Department is the fire department serving Vicksburg, Mississippi.
The first fire company in Vicksburg was organized in April 1837, with a second, rival company organized two weeks later. Others followed, manned by volunteers. By the late 19th century, some employees were paid, and by 1902, the Vicksburg Fire Department was a fully paid fire service — the first in the state.
The city's first two ambulances were delivered on May 16, 1969, and the Vicksburg Warren Ambulance Service was begun. This ambulance service was the first in the state to be run by a city fire department.
There are currently seven fire stations with more than 130 firefighters and emergency medical personnel employed by the Vicksburg Fire Department.

Famous quotes containing the words fire and/or department:
“Our hearts you see not; they are pitiful;
And pity to the general wrong of Rome
As fire drives out fire, so pity pity
Hath done this deed on Caesar.”
—William Shakespeare (15641616)
“While the focus in the landscape of Old World cities was commonly government structures, churches, or the residences of rulers, the landscape and the skyline of American cities have boasted their hotels, department stores, office buildings, apartments, and skyscrapers. In this grandeur, Americans have expressed their Booster Pride, their hopes for visitors and new settlers, and customers, for thriving commerce and industry.”
—Daniel J. Boorstin (b. 1914)
