Vice President of Afghanistan

The Vice President of Afghanistan is the second highest political position obtainable in Afghanistan. Vice Presidents are elected on the same ticket as the President. A Presidential candidate nominates two candidates for Vice President before the election. During the Afghan Interim Administration and the Afghan Transitional Administration, when the Loya Jirga hadn't appointed a new Constitution yet, there were more than two vice presidents. The current Vice Presidents are Mohammed Fahim and Karim Khalili (Second Vice President).

Famous quotes containing the words vice president, vice and/or president:

The President has only 190 million bosses. The Vice President has 190 million and one.
    Hubert H. Humphrey (1911–1978)

The mayor and Montaigne have always been two, with a very clear separation. For all of being a lawyer or a financier, we must not ignore the knavery there is in such callings. An honest man is not accountable for the vice or stupidity of his trade, and should not therefore refuse to practice it.
    Michel de Montaigne (1533–1592)

In a large university, there are as many deans and executive heads as there are schools and departments. Their relations to one another are intricate and periodic; in fact, “galaxy” is too loose a term: it is a planetarium of deans with the President of the University as a central sun. One can see eclipses, inner systems, and oppositions.
    Jacques Barzun (b. 1907)
