Vice-President of The European Commission - Role and Benefits

Role and Benefits

Any Vice-President occupies this role in addition to the usual portfolio as Commissioner. Although the post of Vice-President gives little extra power, it is seen as important in appointments.

Commission salaries are set as a percentage of the top civil service grade. Vice-Presidents are paid at 125% (€22,122.10 monthly), in comparison to 112.5% (€19,909.89) for normal Commissioners and 138% (€24,422.80) for the President. The first Vice-President however, as he or she is also the High Representative, is paid at 130% (€23,006.98). There are further allowances on top of these figures.

Famous quotes containing the words role and/or benefits:

Always and everywhere children take an active role in the construction and acquisition of learning and understanding. To learn is a satisfying experience, but also, as the psychologist Nelson Goodman tells us, to understand is to experience desire, drama, and conquest.
    Carolyn Edwards (20th century)

When your parents are in political life, you aren’t normal. Everybody talks about the benefits, but I don’t know what the benefits are.... But I’d rather have that kind of mother than an overweight housewife.
    Katherine Berman Mariano (b. 1957)
