Veil is a codename used by three people in the Marvel Comics universe. The first character, created by Fabian Nicieza and Kirk Jarvinen, appeared as part of the Desert Sword team in New Mutants Annual #7 in 1991. The second, created by Jimmy Palmiotti and Justin Gray, appeared in Heroes for Hire vol 2 in 2006 as an anti-regulaton protestor during the Superhuman Civil War. The third, Madeline Berry, was created by Christos Gage and Mike McKone. She appeared in Avengers Academy #1 in 2010. Her powers were killing her until she was able to find a cure that saved her life but rendered her powerless. At the series' conclusion, Veil was sent back home to high school to live as a normal student, avoiding the events of Avengers Arena.

Famous quotes containing the word veil:

    For even within his tent she accomplished his derision;
    She loosed one veil and another, standing unafraid;
    And he perished.
    John Crowe Ransom (1888–1974)

    She, as a veil down to the slender waist,
    Her unadorned golden tresses wore
    Dishevelled, but in wanton ringlets waved
    As the vine curls her tendrils, which implied
    Subjection, but required with gentle sway,
    And by her yielded, by him best received,
    Yielded with coy submission, modest pride,
    And sweet, reluctant, amorous delay.
    Nor those mysterious parts were then concealed:
    Then was not guilty shame: dishonest Shame
    Of Nature’s works, Honour dishonourable.
    John Milton (1608–1674)

    For me, it is as though at every moment the actual world had completely lost its actuality. As though there was nothing there; as though there were no foundations for anything or as though it escaped us. Only one thing, however, is vividly present: the constant tearing of the veil of appearances; the constant destruction of everything in construction. Nothing holds together, everything falls apart.
    Eugène Ionesco (b. 1912)
