Malaysian license plates generally have white letters and numbers on a black background, except for taxis (black on white), diplomatic corps vehicles (white on red) and dealers' vehicles (white on blue). The system is SXX NNNN (S=State). 0 is not used as the first number. The first car's license plate (for Kuala Lumpur) is WAA 1 (vehicles registered between 1948 to 1974 were assigned plates using the SX NNNN system, which is still valid). Since 1974, all motor vehicle owners must register their vehicles and display vehicle registration plates.
There are different plates for each type of vehicle.

Famous quotes containing the words vehicle and/or plates:
“How strange a vehicle it is, coming down unchanged from times of old romance, and so characteristically black, the way no other thing is black except a coffina vehicle evoking lawless adventures in the plashing stillness of night, and still more strongly evoking death itself, the bier, the dark obsequies, the last silent journey!”
—Thomas Mann (18751955)
“... What are you seeing out the window, lady?
What Ill be seeing more of in the years
To come as here I stand and go the round
Of many plates with towels many times.”
—Robert Frost (18741963)
