Current Index Mark Codes
Most county codes use the first and last letters of the county name, for example Sligo is SO. The exceptions are:
- Where a conflict exists, i.e. Kerry is KY, so Kilkenny is KK; and County Waterford is WD, so Wexford is WX.
- Tipperary is divided into Tipperary South (TS) and Tipperary North (TN).
- Limerick City and Waterford City use single letters: L and W.
- Dublin City & County, Cork City & County and Galway City & County also use single letters: D, C and G.
Tipperary North and Tipperary South were known as Tipperary North Riding and Tipperary South Riding respectively until 2002.

Famous quotes containing the words current, index, mark and/or codes:
“We set up a certain aim, and put ourselves of our own will into the power of a certain current. Once having done that, we find ourselves committed to usages and customs which we had not before fully known, but from which we cannot depart without giving up the end which we have chosen. But we have no right, therefore, to claim that we are under the yoke of necessity. We might as well say that the man whom we see struggling vainly in the current of Niagara could not have helped jumping in.”
—Anna C. Brackett (18361911)
“Exile as a mode of genius no longer exists; in place of Joyce we have the fragments of work appearing in Index on Censorship.”
—Nadine Gordimer (b. 1923)
“The mark of the man of the world is absence of pretension. He does not make a speech; he takes a low business-tone, avoids all brag, is nobody, dresses plainly, promises not at all, performs much, speaks in monosyllables, hugs his fact. He calls his employment by its lowest name, and so takes from evil tongues their sharpest weapon. His conversation clings to the weather and the news, yet he allows himself to be surprised into thought, and the unlocking of his learning and philosophy.”
—Ralph Waldo Emerson (18031882)
“I cannot help thinking that the menace of Hell makes as many devils as the severe penal codes of inhuman humanity make villains.”
—George Gordon Noel Byron (17881824)
