Vehicle Registration Plates of Ireland - Current Index Mark Codes

Current Index Mark Codes

Most county codes use the first and last letters of the county name, for example Sligo is SO. The exceptions are:

  • Where a conflict exists, i.e. Kerry is KY, so Kilkenny is KK; and County Waterford is WD, so Wexford is WX.
  • Tipperary is divided into Tipperary South (TS) and Tipperary North (TN).
  • Limerick City and Waterford City use single letters: L and W.
  • Dublin City & County, Cork City & County and Galway City & County also use single letters: D, C and G.

Tipperary North and Tipperary South were known as Tipperary North Riding and Tipperary South Riding respectively until 2002.

Famous quotes containing the words current, index, mark and/or codes:

“I” is a militant social tendency, working to hold and enlarge its place in the general current of tendencies. So far as it can it waxes, as all life does. To think of it as apart from society is a palpable absurdity of which no one could be guilty who really saw it as a fact of life.
    Charles Horton Cooley (1864–1929)

Exile as a mode of genius no longer exists; in place of Joyce we have the fragments of work appearing in Index on Censorship.
    Nadine Gordimer (b. 1923)

Commerce has set the mark of selfishness,
The signet of its all-enslaving power,
Upon a shining ore, and called it gold:
Before whose image bow the vulgar great,
The vainly rich, the miserable proud,
The mob of peasants, nobles, priests, and kings,
And with blind feelings reverence the power
That grinds them to the dust of misery.
    Percy Bysshe Shelley (1792–1822)

... until both employers’ and workers’ groups assume responsibility for chastising their own recalcitrant children, they can vainly bay the moon about “ignorant” and “unfair” public criticism. Moreover, their failure to impose voluntarily upon their own groups codes of decency and honor will result in more and more necessity for government control.
    Mary Barnett Gilson (1877–?)
