Varahi Hydro-electrict Project
There is a hydroelectric dam, called Mani Dam (as it is constructed near Manibail village), across the Varahi river and also an underground power generation project. The underground power project, which is unique and first in Karnataka State, is undertaken in view of technical, economical and environmental protection parameters. The dam is also near Yadur near Masthikatte,Shimoga District. Many villages surrounding the area have been surrounded by water due to this dam. An underground power station built by KPCL uses water from this river near Hosangadi in Udupi district.
