Mission Statement and Basic Principles

The Vancouver Board of Trade describes as its mission, "to promote, enhance and facilitate the development of the region as a Pacific centre for trade commerce and travel." In addition, the Board strives to enable and empower its members to succeed, grow and prosper in the global economy. It focuses on delivering its value proposition — a promise to its members to provide access, create networking opportunities, host educational opportunities, and create an environment where business can thrive.

According to its website, the Board believes that it is only the market system that is effective in allocating scarce economic resources to allow for stable economic growth and job creation. The Board does, however, recognize the need for publicly funded social services such as health and public education. The Board ascribes to the philosophy of less government involvement in the business sector.

Famous quotes containing the words mission, statement, basic and/or principles:

Man is eminently a storyteller. His search for a purpose, a cause, an ideal, a mission and the like is largely a search for a plot and a pattern in the development of his life story—a story that is basically without meaning or pattern.
    Eric Hoffer (1902–1983)

Eroticism has its own moral justification because it says that pleasure is enough for me; it is a statement of the individual’s sovereignty.
    Mario Vargas Llosa (b. 1936)

The basic difference between classical music and jazz is that in the former the music is always greater than its performance—Beethoven’s Violin Concerto, for instance, is always greater than its performance—whereas the way jazz is performed is always more important than what is being performed.
    André Previn (b. 1929)

Now there cannot be first principles for men, unless the Divinity has revealed them; all the rest—beginning, middle, and end—is nothing but dreams and smoke.
    Michel de Montaigne (1533–1592)
