The second ship to be so named by the Navy, Yazoo (AN-92) was laid down on 6 July 1969 at Duluth, Minnesota, by the Zenith Dredge Co.; launched on 18 October 1944; sponsored by Mrs. S. H. Griffin, the wife of Colonel S. H. Griffin, USA; and commissioned on 31 May 1945, Lt. Lionel Krisel, USNR, in command.
