Final Decommissioning

During the first six months of 1974, Severn was at Newport preparing for decommissioning. On 1 July 1974, she was decommissioned and towed to the Inactive Ship Maintenance Facility at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Her name was struck from the Navy List, and her hulk was turned over to the Maritime Commission for disposal. Subsequently, she was sold, 22 January 1975, by MARAD. Her current fate is unknown.

Famous quotes containing the word final:

    All cries are thin and terse;
    The field has droned the summer’s final mass;
    A cricket like a dwindled hearse
    Crawls from the dry grass.
    Richard Wilbur (b. 1921)
