Famous quotes containing the word fate:
“The fate of the poor shepherd, who, blinded and lost in the snow-storm, perishes in a drift within a few feet of his cottage door, is an emblem of the state of man. On the brink of the waters of life and truth, we are miserably dying.”
—Ralph Waldo Emerson (18031882)
“However diligent she may be, however dedicated, no mother can escape the larger influences of culture, biology, fate . . . until we can actually live in a society where mothers and children genuinely matter, ours is an essentially powerless responsibility. Mothers carry out most of the work orders, but most of the rules governing our lives are shaped by outside influences.”
—Mary Kay Blakely (20th century)
“Evn thou who mournst the Daisys fate,
That fate is thineno distant date;
Stern Ruins ploughshare drives , elate,
Full on thy bloom,
Till crushd beneath the furrows weight,
Shall be thy doom.”
—Robert Burns (17591796)
