USS Notable (MSO-460) - East Coast Operations

East Coast Operations

Following shakedown out of Charleston, South Carolina, Notable served as training ship for the Navy School of Mine Warfare, Norfolk, Virginia. Returning to Charleston 18 November 1955, the mine sweeper operated with the U.S. 2nd Fleet in the Western Atlantic Ocean for the next two years, and then, on 9 January 1958, deployed to the Mediterranean for a six months cruise with the U.S. 6th Fleet, returning 23 June. Temporarily assigned to the Loran "B Experimental Development Force in October and November 1958, Notable operated off the U.S. East Coast until 18 September 1959 when she entered Norfolk Navy Yard for overhaul.

Famous quotes containing the words east, coast and/or operations:

I’m glad we’ve been bombed. It makes me feel I can look the East End in the face.
    Elizabeth, Queen Mother (b. 1900)

I need not tell you of the inadequacy of the American shipping marine on the Pacific Coast.... For this reason it seems to me that there is no subject to which Congress can better devote its attention in the coming session than the passage of a bill which shall encourage our merchant marine in such a way as to establish American lines directly between New York and the eastern ports and South American ports, and both our Pacific Coast ports and the Orient and the Philippines.
    William Howard Taft (1857–1930)

You can’t have operations without screams. Pain and the knife—they’re inseparable.
—Jean Scott Rogers. Robert Day. Mr. Blount (Frank Pettingell)
