Famous quotes containing the word fate:

The fate of the poor shepherd, who, blinded and lost in the snow-storm, perishes in a drift within a few feet of his cottage door, is an emblem of the state of man. On the brink of the waters of life and truth, we are miserably dying.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)

For after all man knows mighty little, and may some day learn enough of his own ignorance to fall down again and pray. Not that I care. Only, if such is God’s will, and Fate and Evolution—let there be God!
    Henry Brooks Adams (1838–1918)

... it is not only our fate but our business to lose innocence, and once we have lost that it is futile to attempt a picnic in Eden.
    Elizabeth Bowen (1899–1973)
