U.S. Route 15 in Maryland - History

History

When the U.S. Highway System was laid out in 1926, US 15 did not enter Maryland. US 240 followed US 15's current corridor from Frederick north to near Harrisburg. No U.S. Highway connected Frederick and Leesburg via Point of Rocks. By the end of 1927, US 240 was reduced to a Washington–Frederick highway and US 15 connected Point of Rocks and Emmitsburg via Frederick as it does today.
