Stud Record
Owner David Tsui sent Urban Sea to Ireland as a broodmare for his Sunderland Holdings where she became one of the world's most successful broodmares. Her 1997 filly, Melikah, was auctioned in 1998 for €1,500,000, the highest ever price paid for a yearling at the Deauville sales. Her 2002 filly, My Typhoon, set a then-record price for a filly foal of US$2,955,000 when sold in December at the Tattersalls Sale to Live Oak Stud of Ocala, Florida. When Urban Sea's 2006 foal Sea the Stars won the Epsom Derby in 2009, she became one of the few mares to have foals two Derby winners. Sea The Stars went on to win the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe, making Urban Sea only the second Arc de Triomphe winning mare to foal a winner of that race (Detroit - dam of Carnegie is the other). Sea the Stars is considered by many to be one of the greatest racehorses of all time.
In 2009, she delivered a colt by Invicible Spirit, but died on 2 Mar 2009 as a complication of foaling.

Famous quotes containing the word record:
“When our kids are young, many of us rush out to buy a cute little baby book to record the meaningful events of our young childs life...But Ive often thought there should be a second book, one with room to record the moral milestones of our childs lives. There might be space to record dates she first shared or showed compassion or befriended a new student or thought of sending Grandma a get-well card or told the truth despite its cost.”
—Fred G. Gosman (20th century)
