Education

The Patrick O'Hearn School, Edward Everett Elementary School, Boston Collegiate Charter School, the Mather School, the John Winthrop School, the William E. Russell School, the Roger Clap School, the John W. McCormack School, and the Lilla G. Frederick Pilot Schools are in Uphams Corner.

The Uphams Corner Charter School was closed in June 2009 because its charter was revoked by the Massachusetts Department of Education. From 2007 through 2009, this school was not in Uphams Corner but in Lower Roxbury on Huntington Avenue.

Famous quotes containing the word education:

An acquaintance with the muses, in the education of youth, contributes not a little to soften the manners. It gives a delicate turn to the imagination, and a kind of polish to the mind in severer studies.
    Samuel Richardson (1689–1761)

A two-year-old can be taught to curb his aggressions completely if the parents employ strong enough methods, but the achievement of such control at an early age may be bought at a price which few parents today would be willing to pay. The slow education for control demands much more parental time and patience at the beginning, but the child who learns control in this way will be the child who acquires healthy self-discipline later.
    Selma H. Fraiberg (20th century)

... many of the things which we deplore, the prevalence of tuberculosis, the mounting record of crime in certain sections of the country, are not due just to lack of education and to physical differences, but are due in great part to the basic fact of segregation which we have set up in this country and which warps and twists the lives not only of our Negro population, but sometimes of foreign born or even of religious groups.
    Eleanor Roosevelt (1884–1962)
