Testing
To test whether the hydrocarbon is unsaturated you should use the Bromine test. To carry out the Bromine test you should add bromine water. If the bromine water becomes decolourised (Goes colorless) then it is unsaturated. Mix water with saturated hydrocarbon as well as unsaturated hydrocarbon. Add some common salt to it. Unsaturated hydrocarbon with water makes salt dissolve and vice versa with saturated hydrocarbon.
