Unlicensed Personal Communications Services or UPCS band describes the 1920-1930 MHz frequency band allocated by the United States Federal Communications Commission (FCC) for short range Personal Communications Services (PCS) applications in the United States, such as the Digital Enhanced Cordless Telecommunications (DECT) wireless protocol. These rules are described in Title 47, Part 15 of the Code of Federal Regulations. Licensed PCS, although not necessarily distinguished as such from UPCS, is used for digital mobile phone services.
DECT devices designed for the U.S., which use the brand name DECT 6.0, operate in this band.
Prior to an FCC rules change in April 2005, the band also included the frequencies 1910-1920 MHz and 2390-2400 MHz. These were used for a variety of short range communications, including point-to-point microwave links.
Famous quotes containing the words personal and/or services:
“We now in the United States have more security guards for the rich than we have police services for the poor districts. If youre looking for personal security, far better to move to the suburbs than to pay taxes in New York.”
—John Kenneth Galbraith (b. 1908)
“The community and family networks which helped sustain earlier generations have become scarcer for growing numbers of young parents. Those who lack links to these traditional sources of support are hard-pressed to find other resources, given the emphasis in our society on providing treatment services, rather than preventive services and support for health maintenance and well-being.”
—Bernice Weissbourd (20th century)
