Demolition and Replacement
This building was demolished in August 2011, following the approval from the Pittsburgh Historic Review Commission, to make way for a new $59 million, 10-story, 559-bed university residence hall, named Nordenberg Hall, that will also include offices and ground floor retail space and a second floor wellness center space. The new residence hall will occupy the footprint of 121 University Place and the adjacent parking lot at the corner of Fifth Avenue and University Place, and is scheduled to be ready for occupancy in the summer of 2013. UCSUR has been relocated to the Gold Building (3343 Forbes Ave). The residence hall was named in honor of Mark Nordenberg, the university's current chancellor of 17 years.

Famous quotes containing the word replacement:
“Not even the visionary or mystical experience ever lasts very long. It is for art to capture that experience, to offer it to, in the case of literature, its readers; to be, for a secular, materialist culture, some sort of replacement for what the love of god offers in the world of faith.”
—Salman Rushdie (b. 1947)
