University Of The Philippines ROTC Unit
The University of the Philippines ROTC Corps of Cadets pioneered the Reserve Officer Training Corps concept in the Philippines in 1912. In 1935, Commonwealth Act No. 1, also known as the "National Defense Act" was enacted by the National Assembly of the Philippine Commonwealth government. CA No. 1 mandated the creation of a citizen army composed of a small regular force, and a larger reserve component of which ROTC was a part. All able-bodied male students enrolled in Philippine colleges and universities were required to undergo two years of basic military instruction administered under the ROTC program.

Famous quotes containing the words university of, university and/or unit:
“It is in the nature of allegory, as opposed to symbolism, to beg the question of absolute reality. The allegorist avails himself of a formal correspondence between ideas and things, both of which he assumes as given; he need not inquire whether either sphere is real or whether, in the final analysis, reality consists in their interaction.”
—Charles, Jr. Feidelson, U.S. educator, critic. Symbolism and American Literature, ch. 1, University of Chicago Press (1953)
“The university is no longer a quiet place to teach and do scholarly work at a measured pace and contemplate the universe. It is big, complex, demanding, competitive, bureaucratic, and chronically short of money.”
—Phyllis Dain (b. 1930)
“During the Suffragette revolt of 1913 I ... [urged] that what was needed was not the vote, but a constitutional amendment enacting that all representative bodies shall consist of women and men in equal numbers, whether elected or nominated or coopted or registered or picked up in the street like a coroners jury. In the case of elected bodies the only way of effecting this is by the Coupled Vote. The representative unit must not be a man or a woman but a man and a woman.”
—George Bernard Shaw (18561950)
