All these powers and University Schools are divided into departments with their own autonomy, in turn, are divided into areas. All powers are headed by a Dean and the Department by a Director. Apart, the campus is the headquarter of the Institute of Educational Sciences (dedicated to the training of teachers) and Cultural Activities Service, which organizes the Open University. We can also find the campus as a student residence (Building Bartomeu Rosselló-Pòrcel) and a dining room (currently unavailable).

The UIB also has University Schools Adscritas, private establishments offering university degrees recognized by the University of the Balearic Islands (and, therefore, valid to all Spain). Currently, the University Schools Adscritas of UIB are:

  • University School Alberta Gimenez. Studies teaching (all specialties), Communications and journalism.
  • University School of Industrial Relations. Studies industrial relations.
  • University School of Tourism's Island Council of Ibiza and Formentera. Studies tourism.
  • University School of Tourism Felipe Moreno. Studies tourism.

Despite all the faculties and administrative facilities installed at campus Palma, this still is not considered finished. The last building to be inaugurated, in 2004, was Block Gaspar Melchor de Jovellanos, the current headquarters of the powers of Economy and Law. The buildings to complete are the Central Library, a Chapel Multiconfessional and the adequacy of the parking areas. Work is currently under way for the recovery of ancient natural areas ("nuthatches") to the campus, which will serve as a study by the students of biology and as a green zone for the entire campus. It has also been proposed to reform and expand the building Ramon Llull, the union of the two buildings of the Faculty of Sciences (Mateu Orfila and Guillem Colom Casasnovas) and the construction of a new building multi edge for the new access road Ma-1110, to be called Block Beatriu of Pinós II.

In 2006 there were over 13,000 students studying at the university.

Famous quotes containing the words faculties and/or studies:

We talk about a representative government; but what a monster of a government is that where the noblest faculties of the mind, and the whole heart, are not represented! A semihuman tiger or ox, stalking over the earth, with its heart taken out and the top of its brain shot away. Heroes have fought well on their stumps when their legs were shot off, but I never heard of any good done by such a government as that.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

His life itself passes deeper in nature than the studies of the naturalist penetrate; himself a subject for the naturalist. The latter raises the moss and bark gently with his knife in search of insects; the former lays open logs to their core with his axe, and moss and bark fly far and wide. He gets his living by barking trees. Such a man has some right to fish, and I love to see nature carried out in him.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)
