  • 1958 - The first open-heart surgery in mid-Missouri performed at University Hospital

  • 2009 - University Hospital's Medical and Neurosurgical Intensive Care Unit (MNSICU) wins the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses’ Beacon Award for Critical Care Excellence. This marks the first time a hospital in Missouri has won this prestigious award.
  • 2009 - The MU Health System receives the 2009 Honoring Outstanding People Everywhere (HOPE) Award for the forYOU Team, a group of approximately 50 trained physicians, nurses, chaplains, social workers and other health care professionals who provide 24-hour peer support and counseling to colleagues affected by stressful events while caring for patients.
