The University Hospital Arnau de Vilanova (officially, Hospital Universitari Arnau de Vilanova in Catalan) is a public medical institution in Lleida, Catalonia, Spain, and the biggest one in the surrounding area (terres de Lleida or terres de Ponent) and province.
It was opened in 1956. Not to be confused with a hospital in Valencia called Hospital Arnau de Vilanova, the hospital in Lleida is run by the Catalan Health Institute (ICS) and has a total of 447 beds. Nowadays named after the Valencian physician Arnau de Vilanova, its first official name (during the Francoist dictatorship) was Residencia Sanitaria General Moscardó and belonged, at first, to the Instituto Nacional de Previsión (INP) and then to INSALUD until 1981, when it was transferred to the Generalitat de Catalunya.

Famous quotes containing the words university and/or hospital:
“Television ... helps blur the distinction between framed and unframed reality. Whereas going to the movies necessarily entails leaving ones ordinary surroundings, soap operas are in fact spatially inseparable from the rest of ones life. In homes where television is on most of the time, they are also temporally integrated into ones real life and, unlike the experience of going out in the evening to see a show, may not even interrupt its regular flow.”
—Eviatar Zerubavel, U.S. sociologist, educator. The Fine Line: Making Distinctions in Everyday Life, ch. 5, University of Chicago Press (1991)
“Time rushes toward us with its hospital tray of infinitely varied narcotics, even while it is preparing us for its inevitably fatal operation.”
—Tennessee Williams (19141983)
