University Hill Secondary School - Mission Statement

Mission Statement

University Hill School began as a kindergarten to grade 12 school in 1927 on the site of what is now known as University Hill Elementary School. The K-12 school remained on that site until 1954 when the secondary school split from the elementary school and was built on the existing site on Acadia Road. Both schools were run by its own unique school board from 1927–1971, by special UEL elections. In 1971, University Hill Secondary School joined the Vancouver School Board.

The school is situated next to Pacific Spirit Regional Park, which is a forest. University Hill’s school colours are purple and teal. There are two logos, one is historical, with UHS on a traditional shield; and the other is a stylized hawk symbolising an affinity with nature and a commitment to action. 2003 marked the 75th anniversary of University Hill Secondary School.

Famous quotes containing the words mission and/or statement:

... [a] girl one day flared out and told the principal “the only mission opening before a girl in his school was to marry one of those candidates [for the ministry].” He said he didn’t know but it was. And when at last that same girl announced her desire and intention to go to college it was received with about the same incredulity and dismay as if a brass button on one of those candidate’s coats had propounded a new method for squaring the circle or trisecting the arc.
    Anna Julia Cooper (1859–1964)

After the first powerful plain manifesto
The black statement of pistons, without more fuss
But gliding like a queen, she leaves the station.
    Stephen Spender (1909–1995)
