History
Established in 2002, the UCDSO is the university's leading music ensemble with around 70-80 student members. It is now a recognised programme module and elective under the UCD Horizons scheme, allowing students to reap academic as well as artistic and social rewards. The orchestra made its off-campus debut in February 2005 at the National Concert Hall in Dublin, where it now performs annually. Soloists playing with the orchestra have included the violinists Cora Venus Lunny, Gillian Williams and Leonie Curtin, the harpist Teresa O'Donnell, pianists Philip Martin and Mary McCague, guitarist Redmond O'Toole and mezzo-soprano Norah King. The orchestra is conducted by Ciaran Crilly and sectional rehearsals are taken by experienced professional tutors.

Famous quotes containing the word history:
“When the history of guilt is written, parents who refuse their children money will be right up there in the Top Ten.”
—Erma Brombeck (20th century)
“No one is ahead of his time, it is only that the particular variety of creating his time is the one that his contemporaries who are also creating their own time refuse to accept.... For a very long time everybody refuses and then almost without a pause almost everybody accepts. In the history of the refused in the arts and literature the rapidity of the change is always startling.”
—Gertrude Stein (18741946)
“I believe that history might be, and ought to be, taught in a new fashion so as to make the meaning of it as a process of evolution intelligible to the young.”
—Thomas Henry Huxley (182595)
