The Universities Superannuation Scheme is a pension scheme in the United Kingdom with over £30bn under management. Its members include academic and academic-related staff (including senior administrative staff) in many United Kingdom universities, mainly those that were universities prior to 1992. (Staff in the post-1992 universities are mostly members of the Teachers Pension Scheme.) It is the second largest pension scheme in the UK by fund size. The headquarters of Universities Superannuation Scheme Limited (USS) is based in Liverpool.

Famous quotes containing the words universities and/or scheme:
“... though mathematics may teach a man how to build a bridge, it is what the Scotch Universities call the humanities, that teach him to be civil and sweet-tempered.”
—Amelia E. Barr (18311919)
“We doubt not the destiny of our countrythat she is to accomplish great things for human nature, and be the mother of a nobler race than the world has yet known. But she has been so false to the scheme made out at her nativity, that it is now hard to say which way that destiny points.”
—Margaret Fuller (18101850)
