United States Commission of Fine Arts - Commissioners

Commissioners

The Commission of Fine Arts is composed of seven members, who are appointed by the President. The appointments do not require Senate approval. Commission members serve four-year terms, and are not term-limited. The members of the Commission as of October 2012 are:

  • Earl A. Powell III, Chair (Appointed August 30, 2012. Mr. Powell is the director of the National Gallery of Art and a professor of art.)
  • Elizabeth Plater-Zyberk, Vice-Chair (Appointed May 22, 2008. Ms. Plater-Zyberk is an architect and dean of the University of Miami School of Architecture.)
  • Edwin Schlossberg (Appointed March 31, 2011. Dr. Schlossberg is founder and principal of ESI Design, an interactive design firm.)
  • Teresita Fernández (Appointed October 5, 2011. Ms. Fernández is a sculptor of large-scale works and the recipient of a MacArthur Fellows Program "genius" grant.)
  • Philip Freelon (Appointed January 11, 2012. Mr. Freelon is an architect and founder of The Freelon Group architectural firm.)
  • Alex Krieger (Appointed September 17, 2012. Mr. Krieger is a professor and architect, and co-founder of the Chan Krieger Sieniewicz design firm.)
  • Elizabeth K. Meyer (Appointed September 17, 2012. Ms. Meyer is a landscape architect and professor at the University of Virginia School of Architecture.)
